Honesty

Marci, my youngest brother’s first wife, and their daughter Danielle, have been here for a couple of days, and it’s been a blessing because I have been declining fast. It began with the speading in constriction to the lower halves of my lungs, and the accompanying pain, and has steadily gotten worse. Breathing is difficult, and I just get weaker.

Danielle leaves for basic training (USAF) on 1/5.

I don’t think I have long. I could be in a temporary downward spiral, but I doubt it. I think peace is close.

  1. April says:

I’m sending love from far away and am there in spirit
even if not in the flesh. There’s more I want to say to you than I had a chance to in previous visits, but I love you and I will miss having you in my life and in the world. I hope you don’t have to leave before I’ve had another chance to see you in person, but I also don’t want you to suffer. I want you to have the peace you deserve. I know you’ll leave when you know it’s right, and you know what I mean.

    Gentle hugs,
    April

I already wrote to you privately, but what April said. If I don’t get out there to you before you have to go, I’m with you in spirit, every day. I love you, honey. I know you’ll do whatever it is you need to do, and that God is with you every second.

I, too, can’t possibly say it better than April already has. We want you to stay, but it may be selfish of us if it means denying you of the peace you deserve. Float on gentle waves of peace, Clay.

  14. Jerry Doctor says:

We’ve never met and, in this life, almost certainly never will. Still, for the last several years, although you’ve never known it, you’ve been a friend. Your blog was a constant source of enjoyment and knowledge. I learned something about life from you. Now I’m learning even more about death. For that I am grateful.

    God bless you.

From St. Ambrose of Milan on this the day of his feast:

The soul has to turn away from the aimless paths of this life, from the defilement of an earthly
body; it must reach out to those assemblies in heaven (though it is given only to the saints to be
admitted to them) to sing the praises of God.

We learn from Scripture how God’s praise is sung to
    the music of the harp:

Great and wonderful are your deeds, Lord God Almighty; just and true are your ways, King of the nations. Who will not revere and glorify your nature? You alone are holy; all nations will come and worship before you. The soul must also desire to witness your nuptials,Jesus, and to see your bride escorted from earthly to heavenly realities, as all rejoice and sing: All flesh will come before you. No longer will the bride be held in subjection to this passing world but will be made one with the spirit.

Above all else, holy David prayed that he might see and gaze on this: One thing I have asked of
the Lord, this I shall pray for: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, and to see
    how gracious is the Lord.

  21. Ad Orientem says:
